The Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's QLD Toy Run has been cancelled for 2011. Scheduled for Sunday 27 November at Caboolture airfield, local organisational difficulties have meant that there's no choice but to cancel for this year. If you were planning to attend, then I do encourage you to still support a charity and help make Christmas a little brighter for other families. The QLD Toy Run will be held again in 2012 and we look forward to your continued support then.

This year's National Fly-in experienced great weather- in contrast with previous years at Echuca. For once the organiser's efforts were rewarded with fine conditions and cool breezes blowing straight down the main runway. The combination of great weather and the event occurring directly after the RAAF Pilgrimage produced an impressive attendance of some of Australia's most carefully restored Antique Aircraft.

The Auster Rally has passed all too quick for yet another year. Held at Kyabram airfield, looking fantastic after winter rain, the fly-in was a resounding success. Weather in other districts did keep numbers down from that expected, however 14 Austers made an appearance among a total of 62 aeroplanes. Thankfully the Austers were able to withstand the challenge of greater numbers from the tailwheel Cessna fraternity. Dinner in the adjacent golf club on the Saturday night provided a nostalgic journey for many long-time Association members. A full event report will appear in the December issue of Rag & Tube. Some photos can be viewed online: Auster Rally 2010 photos

The local organisers have put in a huge amount of work to make it another memorable event and the airfield is looking a treat after the winter and spring rains. We look forward to seeing you there. Remember that this isn't an exclusive Auster event, all types of aeroplane are welcome.

The success of the 2007 Auster Rally at Wentworth served as inspiration for the 2008 event held over October 25 & 26 at Goolwa, hosted at Geoff Eastwood's airfield, and well organised by Mick Wright. Unfortunately the wind decided to make a visit, with Saturday's conditions being strong and gusty however a great turn out of 52 aircraft made an appearance, including some 18 Austers.

The 33rd AAAA National Fly In was held in Echuca on the 24-26th of April 2009. Rain, low cloud and strong winds resulted in only a handful of pilots being able to fly to the event, however luckily many of our Victorian and NSW members were able to utilise thier ground ground transport to attend. Of particular note was Judy Pay's newly restored P-40F the only one airworthy in the world.

Due to the success of the 2007 AAAA National Fly-in and Airshow at Echuca the Association has been able to produce a stunning DVD covering all the highlights of this event. This years Chippy Rally was hosted by well known Chipmunk owners Mike Hannel, Ivor Paech at Goolwa in South Australia. Airfield owner, Geoff Eastwood had put in a power of work to ensure the airfield was picture perfect with freshly cut green grass (no dust) and fantastic ocean views. The weather couldn't have been better and the aircraft in attendance were seldom on the ground, choosing to take advantage of the fantastic coastal flying. In total 7 Chipmunks were in attendance including Ian Byers all the way from Perth. They were joined by another 26 aeroplanes. In all it was a great weekend doing its best to maintain the fantastic tradition set by the Merrylees at Groongal. For those who missed it, it's definately worth the trip the next time the AAAA hold an event there.

Local organisers, Colin and Jenny Holdsworth and Eric Szerenyi, ably assisted by Matt Grigg did a fantastic job of organising this years Auster rally at Wentworth. The event was a great success with 19 Auster attending and 56 aircraft in total. The star of the show was without doubt Greg Ellis as the MC for the Saturday night function as he entertained the crowd with Auster antics... If you're interested in checking out his performance some highlights have been posted on youtube.
