AAAA Toy Runs

This years events were held in Lethbridge VIC, Luskintyre NSW, Noosa QLD and Truro Flats S.A.

The South Australian event this year was their best yet.  Some 30 aircraft were in attendance with people coming from as far afield as Wentworth and Broken Hill in NSW.  The Barossa Birdmen club at Truro Flats went out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and put on a fantastic lunch.  A significant amount of money was raised for loacl charity and all involved are keen to make it bigger and better next year.

The Victorian Toy Run was once again held at Lethbridge just to the west of Geelong.  The airfield was green and inviting, the weather was perfect and many generous members of the AAAA and the Geelong Sports Aviators came out to enjoy the day and spread a little bit of Christmas cheer.  Around 35 aircraft attended on the day with members making the trip from Tyabb, Romsey, Bendigo, Echuca and as far a field as Swan Hill.

Many thanks to everyone who attended and supported such a worthy cause.  The selected charity, MacKillop Family Services were overwhelmend by everyones generosity and assured us, that the toys donated would make the world of difference to the Christmas experience for many local children.  A special thanks must also go to our hosts, the Geelong Sports Aviators, Golden PLains Flying school and Lethbridge Airpark owners, Garry & Trish Baun.  The airfield was brilliantly presented, and the hospitality and lunch put on by the club was fantastic.

At Luskintyre the guys elected to combine the event with their Christmas party ensuring a good turnout.  Graeme Smith and Hilton McLeod brought their Austers down from Kempsey, and new member Chris Hagendyk was always certain to be their in his newly aquired Beagle Airedale, VH-DCR.  Most of the rest of the contingent were locally based but all had a great day and a good collection of toys were donated for Charity.

As, mentioned previously the QLD events had to be cancelled as heavy rains made the strip unserviceable.  This is very dissapointing as after 10 years of running the event Tony Green had decided that was going to be his last.  The good news is Ray Vuillermin and the team at Caboolture have volunteered to take over the event and keep the generous spirit airborne.

These events are a great initiative and many thanks to Tony for getting the whole thing started.  Hopefully in years to come we can grow all of these events and increase the contribution we make back to the community.
